Batteries & Chargers: your questions, answered

choosingHow do I choose the right battery or charger?
Check your toy's manual or battery compartment first — it tells you the exact type, whether magnetic USB, AA, AAA or watch cells. Match that, and for rechargeables buy the maker's charger or a verified-compatible one. The Coyscore weights reliability, fit and battery life from real reviews to steer you right.
comparisonRechargeable vs. disposable batteries — which is better?
Rechargeable toys are more powerful, cheaper to run and better for the environment, which is why most reviewers prefer them; disposable AA or AAA cells are handy as backups and for older or travel toys. If you buy disposables, quality alkaline or rechargeable NiMH cells outlast cheap ones by far.
safetyHow do I use and store batteries safely?
Never mix old and new or different battery brands, don't force wrong sizes, and remove batteries if a toy will sit unused for a while to prevent leaks. Keep lithium and USB chargers away from water and heat, and don't charge unattended overnight. Recycle old batteries rather than binning them.
careHow do I make my toy's battery last longer?
Charge rechargeables fully before first use, avoid leaving them flat for long periods, and store toys at room temperature away from heat and damp. Wipe magnetic charging contacts clean so they connect properly. For battery-powered toys, remove the cells between longer breaks to prevent corrosion and leaks.
valueIs it worth buying branded batteries and chargers?
Usually yes for chargers — a maker's or verified-compatible charger protects your toy and lasts, while cheap unbranded units can under-deliver or fail. For disposable cells, mid-range alkaline or rechargeable NiMH batteries are the sweet spot. The Coyscore helps you spot which options genuinely deliver reliable power for the price.
deliveryIs delivery discreet, and can I return it?
Always — every order ships in plain, unbranded packaging with a discreet billing descriptor, so nothing gives it away. We ship NZ-wide with free shipping over $150. We don't offer change-of-mind returns or exchanges, whether or not it's been opened, but we'll always put a fault right.

Buying guide

How to choose batteries and chargers

The right power keeps your favourites ready when you are. Here's what the Coyscore weighs — and what to look for yourself.

Coy buying-guide card — “Match the type your toy needs”

1. Match the type your toy needs

Start by checking what your toy actually takes — magnetic USB, AA, AAA or small watch cells. The manual or battery compartment tells you. Matching the exact type, and buying the maker's or a verified-compatible charger, avoids most power problems and protects the toy.

  • Check the manual or battery compartment first
  • Magnetic USB, AA, AAA or watch cells
  • Use the maker's or a verified-compatible charger
Coy buying-guide card — “Rechargeable, disposable or backup”

2. Rechargeable, disposable or backup

Rechargeable toys are more powerful and cheaper to run, so keep the right charger handy and charge fully before first use. Disposable AA and AAA cells make useful backups for travel or older toys — quality alkaline or NiMH cells last far longer than cheap ones.

  • Rechargeable: more power, lower running cost
  • Keep quality disposables as backups
  • Charge fully before first use

3. Care, safety and the Coyscore

Store batteries and chargers away from heat and water, remove cells from toys left unused, and wipe magnetic contacts clean for a reliable connection. Reviewers value reliable power and long life, so the Coyscore weights exactly those — from thousands of real reviews across the web, not our own stars.
