You're lucky it hasn't leaked and destroyed your device which is a hallmark of most alkaline batteries that old.
I've bought the Kirkland brand for home before.. and have been extremely disappointed. They've leaked in pretty much everything I've put them in, one was in a $200 tv remote, none of them have been used outside or in any sort of harsh conditions.
