A part of me wants to just buy *Kink by Doc Johnson* at the local sex shop just so I can call it a day, but I love the idea of boiling, conditioning and whipping my own rope.
I really like the Doc Johnson Japanese Bondage Rope, it’s cotton and is flat. It’s not expensive and can be ordered from Amazon or even found at Adam and Eve or local adult stores! It’s a great starter rope and to use for nothing too extreme (like suspensions).
The sex shop ropes are usually just repackaged general purpose cotton rope, sometimes dyed with cheap dyes that leave their coloring on everything from sheets to genitalia, and I urge you to simply stay clear of it unless you get a *specific* recommendation.
I am very new to tying up people. I bought several lengths of 8mm twisted hemp(real hemp, manila hemp is not hemp) from jade rope. I like it a lot. It has some hay/grass smell, but I included some scented essential oils when conditioning. The hay smell was kind of pleasant. The singed smell from torching off the fuzzies was what I really wanted to cover up. Almost all of my working with rope (in non-kinky capacities) in the past was using synthetics of one kind or another. Tying with natural fibers is amazing. High friction, holds knots and hitches like nothing else.
