Collars & Leads: your questions, answered

choosingHow do I choose a collar and lead?
Start with fit and comfort: a collar should sit snug enough to feel present but loose enough to slip two fingers underneath easily. Decide on material — soft padded leather or silicone for comfort, metal for a statement — and check the hardware is solid. A lead should clip securely. The Coyscore weights comfort, fit and hardware quality from real reviews.
comparisonCollar vs posture collar vs day collar — what's the difference?
A standard play collar is worn during scenes and clips to a lead. A posture collar is taller and stiffer, holding the neck upright for a more intense feel. A day collar is a discreet, everyday piece that reads as ordinary jewellery. Beginners usually start with a soft, adjustable play collar.
beginnersAre collars and leads good for beginners?
We don't offer change-of-mind returns or exchanges, whether or not it's been opened. Choose padded lining for comfort, and treat the lead as a gentle guide rather than something to pull. Agree what the collar means to you both. The beginner-friendly tag flags the comfiest, simplest styles. Anything faulty or damaged, we'll always put right.
safetyHow do we use a collar and lead safely?
Keep a collar snug but never tight — you should slide two fingers under it easily — and never restrict the throat or airways. A lead is for gentle guiding only, never for pulling, hauling or suspension, and the neck should never bear weight. Never leave a collared partner tethered and alone, and remove it at once if breathing feels affected.
careHow do I clean and store a collar?
Wipe leather and faux-leather collars with a damp cloth and condition genuine leather now and then so it stays supple. Wash silicone collars with warm water and toy cleaner. Dry everything fully, then store flat or hung so the shape holds and metal hardware doesn't tarnish. Keep it out of damp bathrooms and direct sun.
deliveryIs delivery discreet, and can I return a collar?
Always — collars and leads ship in plain, unbranded packaging with a discreet billing descriptor, and NZ shipping is free over $150. We don't offer change-of-mind returns or exchanges, whether or not it's been opened, but we'll always put a fault right.

Buying guide

How to choose a collar and lead

A great collar feels meaningful, sits comfortably, and clips to a lead you can trust. Three things decide the right pick: the style, the fit and hardware, and safe, gentle use.

Coy buying-guide card — “Choose the style that fits the mood”

1. Choose the style that fits the mood

Play collars are made for scenes and clip to a lead; posture collars sit taller for a stricter feel; discreet day collars pass as everyday jewellery. Think about when and how you'll wear it before you choose material and look.

  • Play collars clip to a lead for scenes
  • Posture collars feel stricter and more upright
  • Day collars pass as everyday jewellery
Coy buying-guide card — “Fit and hardware do the real work”

2. Fit and hardware do the real work

Comfort keeps a collar on. Padded, lined leather or smooth silicone sits kindly against the skin, and an adjustable buckle lets you dial in a snug two-finger fit. Solid, well-set rings and clips are what reviewers trust most on a lead.

  • Padded lining prevents rubbing
  • Adjustable sizing for a snug two-finger fit
  • Solid rings and clips hold securely

3. Guide gently, never restrict

A collar is a symbol, not a restraint for the throat — keep it snug but breathable, and use a lead only to guide, never to pull or bear weight. Never tether and leave a partner alone. The Coyscore weights comfort, fit and hardware quality from real reviews.

  • Two fingers should slide under the collar
  • Use the lead to guide, never to pull hard
  • The Coyscore weights comfort, fit and hardware
